Today, while in a half daydream, I thought of an old snare drum solo that I played in the AGM competition back in the 1990's. It was called "The Winner" by Mitch Markovich. It brought home the 1st place trophy for me that year.
When this snare drum solo was proposed to me by my drum instructor (back when I was in the 9th Grade), I remember at first thinking it would be too hard.
My drum instructor, Keith, assured me I could do it and that it was a great solo. That solo changed my playing forever. I now find myself involuntarily incorporating Swiss Army Triplets into my drumset playing - now I remember why I do this.
Today's "Random Randy" is just a video posting. If you don't know what a Swiss Army Triplet is, don't worry about it. Here is a one minute clip of them being applied on the drumset. The tempo is around ~ 114 bpm. You can call me Mr. Tilde because I've been using this crazy character in the last few posts. I am not a mathematician; I'm an estimator. This drummer's drumset looks very similar to mine.
p.s. I hope to eventually play like Vinnie Colaiuta. I'm 30. I'm not playing like Vinnie did at 30. Dang it.
